Cryopreservation of human eggs has been possible since the 1980s, however success rates have increased so dramatically over the last few years that egg freezing is no longer considered experimental. Cryopreservation, and other advancements in the field of human reproduction, have revolutionized women’s reproductive choices providing them with greater options than ever before.

Please note, elective egg freezing is only available at Procrea Fertility practices in Montreal (Mont-Royal), Quebec City and Vaughan.

Preserving Your Fertility

Two fertility preservation approaches can be achieved at Procrea Fertility:

  • In Vitro Fertilization and embryo freezing for future embryo transfer.
  • Hormone stimulation to obtain several oocytes and cryopreservation of the eggs.

The cryopreservation of the eggs involves stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs, harvesting the eggs and freezing them for storage until later use to achieve a pregnancy. The frozen eggs will be thawed when the woman is ready to proceed with fertilization. ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) is required to fertilize the eggs.

Our clinical staff of nurses, physicians, counselors and laboratory personnel are specially trained to carefully advise a patient on when to choose elective egg freezing or an egg freezing cycle for medical reasons thus ensuring that:

  • The woman is fully aware of the potential and limitations in the freezing and thawing process.
  • She gains understanding of the success rate as it applies to her probability of getting pregnant.
  • She is accompanied and supported in navigating through the emotional changes associated with the fertility treatments.
